March Activities
Saturday, March 22, 1:00 PM Regular meeting in the GAR Hall.
This was a regular business meeting and work day. Present were Commander Dan
Chroninger, Sr. Vice Commander Garret Reynolds, Jr. Vice Commander Brian Ewing,
Secretary Gary Young, Treasurer Tom Truog, Chaplain Kevin McLees, Council
Member Steven Woodhouse, and Alan Goldsmith.
We elected two new lineal members to the Camp. They were: Tim Bennish, Readstown, the step-son
of Commander Dan Chroninger, and John Greene, Edgerton, whose ancestor,
Tompkins Green, was a member of Post #101. His other ancestor, Robert Duncan,
was a Boscobel Resident. After his election, Tim Bennish
joined the meeting. In addition, three
of our new members were initiated: Alan Goldsmith,
Kevin McLees, and Tim Bennish. The Treasurer reported
a balance of $367.15 in the treasury…DUES were a big issue. Our 2003 per capita
fee set by the National organization contained in General Order #2-2002 is
$21.00. We are required to forward those fees to the Wisconsin Department by
April 1st. Processing fees for new members remain at $5.00.
Therefore it was necessary to revise annual dues from $20.00 to $31.00.
Processing fees for new members remain at $5.00. As we have to pay $120.00 per
year rent for the Hall and wish to publish a newsletter each month, an increase
in dues was required to support an annual Camp budget of $388.00. Fund raising
was addressed as a way to fund some of the Camp’s efforts at administration and
historic preservation as there is little likelihood of 40 members this year.
The Secretary and Treasurer were authorized to investigate and schedule a
Louisiana Crawfish Boil Fund-raiser at and with the Boscobel Hotel in May. The
meeting and the initiation was conducted in full ritual and closed in due form
at 2:15 PM.
The work day
went forward quickly as Brothers Brian and Steve wired the upstairs office for
electricity and phone. Others pitched in cleaning up the meeting hall, storing
loose gear, and hanging pictures. Others built the office desk and glued the
Formica on the top. We hauled out the trash when we secured at 5:00 PM. Brothers Gary
and Garret went back Monday morning, finished the desk, set up the ladies’
computer and the phone, and moved the refrigerator and microwave into the
office. The office is now fully functional and the meeting hall arranged for
meetings and presentable for tours.
