February Activities
Thursday, February 27, 7:00 PM Regular meeting in the GAR Hall.
This was a regular business meeting and we elected four new members to the Camp.
They were: Alan Goldsmith, Racine,
Chris Gosling, Roselle, IL,
Harley Greene, DePere, and Roger Sutter, Brodhead.
Harley’s ancestor, Tompkins Green, was a member of Post #101. Welcome all.
Among things addressed were the next meeting,
Saturday, 22 March at 1:00 PM. The
consensus was that meetings with ritual are good, but we need
some Saturday work days so more can attend and we can get some work done
in the Hall…what we organized to do. It is hoped this scheduling will give more
members an opportunity to attend. The meeting will begin at 1:00PM for conduct of business (an important vote on
DUES), to elect new members, and to initiate new members. The meeting (full
ritual) will be followed by work on the Hall until 4:00 PM. Some may work a little later…until 5 or so.
Critical Notice on Dues
We have been notified that
annual per capita dues for members is $21.00 and processing fees are $10.00. We
established dues and fees for this year at $20 and $5 respectively based on our
past experience. No formal correspondence from Department or National advised
us of this change (enacted at the August 2002 National Encampment). I
understand it is noted on the national web-site. The bottom line is what we owe
Department and National for membership ($31.00 per member) is less than we
charged; we owe more than we have taken in or have in the bank. Expenses for
checking accounts, correspondence, newsletters, and etc. are not covered at
all. Individual members have been subsidizing expenses to this date. We can’t
expect that to continue indefinitely and must take action to put us on a sound
footing. To make us solvent, we will have to request a special assessment of
members and new members this year until such time as we can amend the by-laws
to reflect a new dues and fees schedule.
March Activities
Saturday,
22 March; Regular meeting and work day at the G.A.R. Hall beginning at 1:00PM. Business to be
conducted includes voting on new applicants (John Green), initiation of new
members present, and action on the Dues problem. Work to be completed includes
running power from the distribution box to the 2nd floor office,
running the phone line to the 2nd floor office, finishing the office
desk and setting up the WRC’s computer. We need to
hang some pictures in the meeting hall upstairs, as well as restore the
stovepipe. If we can find one, we would like to hang a “period” light fixture
in the stairwell that can be turned on and off at the bottom of the stairs. We
would also like to finish the stairs and landing, painting our way out. Gary will bring one 6’
step-ladder. But we could use 2 ea 8 footers. A tool for “fishing” wire and one
for finishing Formica edges (office desk) would be very welcome. A couple of
disposable paintbrushes and a roller would be welcome as well. Gary has the materials
needed for the above work in the Hall. Once in the Hall, I’m sure we will all
see things that need to be fixed. We can pop downtown to get stuff if need be.
Bring your screwdrivers and pliers. Remember to wear work clothes and that there
are NO facilities in the Hall. Also, no smoking and no
alcoholic beverages.
